What Remains When All Is Quiet – Commissioned Work

When all is quiet, the loud loses its primacy.
Standards dissolve, judgements recede, and what remains is no longer organised according to significance or rank.
The starting point for this work was a commission that specified caviar as the material. A premise that was unsettling – not so much because of the material itself as because of the matter-of-factness with which meaning, value and hierarchy are attributed to it.
In nature, no such order exists, no hierarchy. There, nothing stands above anything else. Material is not a symbol, not a status symbol, not a promise, but part of a simultaneous fabric. Caviar appears here not as a luxury, but as a substance amongst substances – stripped of its cultural connotations, returned to a state beyond judgement.
When nature becomes a luxury, our perception shifts. The work shifts our gaze to what lies before it: to the projections we impose on materials, and to the speed with which meaning arises.
What remains is silence.
And within this silence, a moment in which perception does not organise or categorise, but simply encounters.
Due to the natural material, a patina develops intentionally over the years. The caviar is sealed and therefore odourless.
The work is signed on the reverse and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
A hanging mechanism is fitted to the reverse.

Her artistic practice operates at the intersection of landscape, material and perception. Through painting, photography and site-specific works, she explores processes of change, memory and transience.
Her work often takes its starting point from observations of nature. She is less interested in depicting a specific landscape than in the question of how time, movement and transformation can become visible on material surfaces.
Depending on the work, she works with pigments, natural materials, drawing elements or photographic fragments. Through layering, compacting, peeling away and superimposing, she creates pictorial spaces reminiscent of geological processes, sediments or atmospheric conditions.
Shaped by her studies in architecture as well as training in bodywork, breathwork and psychodynamics, Lardschneider combines different perspectives on space, perception and human experience.
At the heart of her work lies the question of how landscapes store traces of time, memory and change – and how these processes become visible in material surfaces.
In 2013, Vicky Anna Lardschneider completed a foundation course in art, specialising in classical drawing and painting, at the Akthof School of Fine Art in Munich. She then studied architecture at the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck, graduating with a Bachelor of Science.
In 2017–2018, she furthered her artistic training on the Continuing Studies Programme in Fine Art at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver, Canada.
Her work is also shaped by her training in yoga, breathwork, art therapy and psychotherapy. The interplay of different disciplines and forms of perception continues to form an important foundation of her artistic practice to this day.
