Art Student of the Month
The Art Student of the Month is selected based on various factors. This feature recognizes the artist who generated the most sales during the respective month. We also take factors such as reliability, professionalism, and communication into account during the selection process. Our goal is to specifically honor outstanding collaboration. Since this award is given only once, it does not imply that the artist was any less impressive in other months.
What is ‘Artist of the Month’?
‘Artist of the Month’ is an award for outstanding achievements within the SKM community. It is awarded monthly to artists who not only achieve the highest sales figures but also impress with their professionalism and reliability. This makes it particularly worthwhile to invest in art here. The award can be received once and recognises special moments of success in an artist’s career.

Michael Tauschke’s works are deeply rooted explorations of light, darkness and the many shades in between. His paintings, which combine floral, figurative and cosmic motifs, transport the viewer into a supernatural world. His artistic practice is not merely about the visible, but about what lies beneath – the fragility of life, the transience of existence and the perpetual search for meaning amidst chaos.

In my art, I explore, amongst other things, my everyday life and view it from a new perspective through my paintings. I am driven by a keen curiosity about the world around me. For me, nothing is too trivial to paint. I find live painting – or plein air painting – of seemingly ordinary scenes particularly exciting.

My work focuses less on narratives and stories; rather, I explore emotional states that emerge during the creative process. Whilst these are carefully considered, they leave room for spontaneity and the unplanned.

: A Guide for Experienced Investors
Art is becoming an increasingly important investment, as it offers an attractive way to invest capital over the long term. Unlike volatile stock markets or low-interest savings accounts, art can appreciate in value over the years, and investing in art can prove to be a crisis-proof investment. It is particularly worthwhile for investors looking to diversify their portfolio to invest in art. That said, high-quality works of art do not always have to cost millions – even on a smaller budget, it is possible to invest in art and acquire promising works that may increase in value over time.
Emerging artists in particular offer a sound investment for a modest sum, as their works are still available at affordable prices. Through careful selection and targeted investments, the value of a work of art can rise significantly over the years. Through ‘Studierenden Kunstmarkt’, we represent over 400 young art students from across Germany. Investing in art also adds personality to your home and reflects your individual taste. Those who invest early in talented emerging artists have the opportunity not only to benefit financially, but also to play an active role in shaping the development of the art world. Investing in art is far more than simply acquiring a beautiful piece for your home. In this article, we highlight the key aspects of the art market and explain why investing in art makes particular sense for experienced investors.
Why invest in art?
Art is a distinct asset class that differs from traditional markets such as shares or property. Works of art are unique; they are not subject to the fluctuations of financial markets and often have an intrinsic value that exists independently of economic conditions. Historically, art has demonstrated stable long-term appreciation in value. Investing in art by emerging, lesser-known artists in particular offers great potential for growth. You can invest in paintings at fair, comparatively affordable prices, which may develop into valuable works over time. Works by artists at the start of their careers, such as those on the student art market, offer good prospects for a profitable return on investment as a long-term asset and are therefore particularly suitable for those wishing to invest in art. On our platform, it is easy to track the development of artworks that are increasing in value and the rise of emerging artists.
Another advantage of investing in art is the diversification of your portfolio. A broadly diversified portfolio protects you from fluctuations within a single sector and lends stability to your assets. Investing in art opens up a whole new world of possibilities: works of art are physical assets that exist independently of traditional financial markets. They are not affected by inflation or economic turmoil. As well as offering financial benefits, investing in art brings personal enjoyment: you automatically engage with creative, inspiring works and surround yourself with beauty.
The art market: an overview
The art market is divided into different segments: the primary market, where works are sold directly by artists or galleries, and the secondary market, where works that have already been sold are resold. Both markets offer different opportunities and challenges. Investing in art on the primary market has the advantage that the authenticity of the works is guaranteed directly by the artists. Furthermore, you can engage in personal dialogue with the artists and learn more about the background to their work and their sources of inspiration. And once you’ve found your favourite artist, you’re, so to speak, right at the source for further investments in art.
Online trading is also a growing part of the art market. As is the case everywhere, a large part of the art investment market is shifting online. Platforms such as ours enable investors to buy artworks from the comfort of their own homes. Such digital marketplaces offer access to a wider range of artists and styles. Buyers and artists no longer need to be physically in the same place, but can connect from very different regions. This creates a wider choice and more convenient purchasing conditions when investing in art. It also makes it easier to compare prices and carry out research when considering a potential investment in art.
It is important to us that, despite the online environment, there is still room for a personal experience and individual advice when investing in art. We curate the SKM artists based on selected criteria; we have already visited many of them in person at their studios across Germany and regularly organise exhibitions featuring individual artists at the SKM Gallery in Leipzig. This has given rise to a vibrant community that thrives on mutual support and exchange. We also count our clients amongst this community, and we greatly value their input. SKM co-founder Erich Reich would be happy to advise you personally during a free art consultation if you’re interested in investing in art. He knows the SKM artists like no one else and will help you expand your collection with promising new talent.
Art and Technology: A New Trend?
As with any investment, it is important when investing in art to keep abreast of current market developments. Digitalisation plays an interesting role here, as it does not stop at art: from robots that paint pictures to NFTs. Technological developments are being incorporated into artistic works and have transformed the art market. From online auction houses to virtual galleries – digitalisation is opening up new possibilities. This becomes clear when considering an investment in art. Blockchain technology and NFTs (non-fungible tokens) offer new ways to secure proof of ownership and simplify the art trade. These developments provide additional transparency and security for investors in art.
However, the NFT market has experienced considerable volatility in recent years. The initial hype led to speculative investment and extreme price fluctuations. Many NFTs were traded at inflated prices, only to subsequently lose a great deal of value. This volatility has led many investors to become more cautious. At Studierenden Kunstmarkt, we primarily make the most of the advantages of an online gallery: simplified communication, a wider selection regardless of location, and customisable filter options when searching by subject, materials or artists. Whilst we capitalise on the opportunities offered by digitalisation for art investment, we also ensure that the art-buying experience remains personal, individual and human. Ultimately, art and investing in art always involve an emotional experience that cannot be replaced by a machine.
Investing in young art students
An often overlooked but extremely lucrative sector of the art market is investing in works by young art students. These up-and-coming talents offer a unique opportunity for early investment with high potential for capital growth. Our platform Student Art Market gives you access to a wide range of art students whose works have already seen remarkable increases in value – in some cases over 400 per cent. Investing successfully in art can be easier than you might think.
Investing in art by young artists offers several benefits. Firstly, the works are often more affordable than those by established artists, meaning a lower entry price. Secondly, young artists have the potential to develop significant careers, which can lead to substantial increases in the value of their early works. Furthermore, by supporting young talent, you contribute to the development of culture and nurture the next generation of artists. Starting out on a career as an artist is particularly challenging. This makes it all the more rewarding that investing in art by young artists offers benefits for both sides.
Furthermore, investing in works by young art students offers not only financial opportunities but also emotional and intellectual enrichment. You become part of the creative process and can witness the growth and development of promising talent. It also enables you to build an exciting portfolio that is not solely focused on financial gain, but also reflects your personal connection to art. By investing early in innovative and visionary artists, you not only secure potential returns through valuable paintings, but also a place in the exciting world of contemporary art.
Art Student of the Month
Every month, we name one of our SKM artists as the "Artist of the Month". We make our selection based on various factors. This feature recognises the artist who has generated the most sales during the month in question. Alongside hard facts such as sales figures, we also take into account factors such as reliability, professionalism and communication when making our selection. In this way, we aim to particularly honour outstanding collaboration. Each SKM artist can only receive this award once. It does not, therefore, mean that the artist will be any less impressive in the coming months.
The ‘Art Student of the Month’ award is of interest to both artists and customers, as it highlights which artist is currently in high demand and whose paintings are therefore promising as an investment. This award is therefore particularly relevant if you’re looking to invest in art. In this way, we aim to create greater transparency in art investment and also to assist you in selecting particularly promising paintings as an investment.
