Lilli Geyer

The subjects of my work are mostly figurative, often with a reference to fashion as a medium of communication. I mainly paint with oil paint on wooden panels, frequently incorporating the surface and the grain of the wood into my compositions. In my paintings, I seek to capture the essence of my subject, whilst deliberately leaving traces of the creative process visible through raw and dynamic brushstrokes. I am inspired by the interplay of tension within my compositions, authenticity and expressiveness. In some series of paintings, however, I also deliberately explore the absence of the figure, depicting interior scenes and still lifes. The mystery of a beam of light behind a door crack, the solitude of an empty room, and the emotions found in the seemingly mundane inspire me, and through painting I give the everyday a new perspective. All these paintings are always created live on site, which allows me to convey the genuine atmosphere of the light.
