Das Werk Saturn mit Sonnenblumen ist inspiriert von den vielfältigen okkulten und dualistischen Interpretationen des Saturns. In der Mythologie und Esoterik erscheint Saturn oft als ambivalente Figur: als Hüter der Schwelle, Gott des Wohlstands, aber auch als Symbol des Todes. Diese Mehrdeutigkeit spiegelt sich in der Darstellung wider. Die Figur trägt eine Laterne, die den Weg über die Schwelle weist – hin zur Erkenntnis, zum Wohlstand, zum Tod oder zu etwas anderem, das der Betrachter selbst interpretieren kann. Der Betrachter ist eingeladen, über die Ambivalenz des Dargestellten und die Mittel der Darstellung zu reflektieren – und die Ungewissheit zu spüren, welche Lesart des Saturns mit Sonnenblumen die richtige ist.

The work Saturn with Sunflowers is inspired by the diverse occult and dualistic interpretations of Saturn. In mythology and esotericism, Saturn often appears as an ambivalent figure: as the Guardian of the Threshold, a god of prosperity, but also as a symbol of death. This ambiguity is reflected in the depiction. The figure carries a lantern that illuminates the path across the threshold—toward knowledge, prosperity, death, or something else that the viewer can interpret for themselves. The halo above the figure's head poses a provocative question: Does Saturn wear it rightfully? Is he a savior or a tempter?

The glaze painting gives the pictorial space depth, and the sunflowers painted in an impasto technique extend this space from the flat surface into our three-dimensional world.

Through this contrast in painting technique, a back-and-forth shift in the viewer's perspective takes place. This constant shift in perspective opens up the work in a new and unfamiliar way.

With Saturn, the dual representation of this symbol in the occult is examined through painterly means. The viewer is invited to reflect on the ambivalence of what is depicted and the means of its depiction—and to feel the uncertainty of which interpretation of Saturn with Sunflowers is the correct one.
