Valerie Cee
Born in Salzburg in 1987, Valerie Cee now lives and works in Munich. Even as a child, painting was her sanctuary – a place to dream, explore and experiment. This curiosity remains with her to this day: using a combination of different media and materials, she creates works that emerge intuitively and radiate a special energy.
A life-changing experience shaped her artistic journey.
Following a stroke, Valerie lost her colour vision for almost six months. But rather than letting this hold her back, she turned the challenge into a creative opportunity. Her art took on a new depth; textures became more important and contrasts more intense. A transformation that remains evident in her work to this day.
Since 2022, Valerie Cee has been studying under Prof. Markus Lüpertz, one of the most influential figures on the German art scene. Under his guidance, her art gained further expressive power as she refined her own style. Her works range from impulsive abstraction to organic forms, characterised by vibrant dynamism and intense colour palettes.
In February 2025, she completed her studies as a master student under Prof. Markus Lüpertz.
‘Landscapes are at the heart of my work – not as real places, but as inner images: memories, moods, imagined spaces. What I paint is less what I see than what I feel.
I work with pigments, charcoal, acrylic paints and cyanotypes, which often form the starting point for painterly transformations. Layer by layer, images emerge in which structures dissolve and reassemble. Some forms disappear, others reappear – like memories that change over time.
A period during which I could perceive the world only in outlines and shadows had a profound effect on my sense of colour. At that time, new landscapes emerged within me: meadows in shades of pink, skies in violet, trees in brilliant yellow. Since then, colour has no longer been bound to external reality for me, but has become an expression of inner freedom and imagination.
Inspired by artists such as Joan Mitchell and Martha Jungwirth, I seek a balance between structure and dissolution in my painting. I am inspired by the moment when a landscape can still be sensed, but is no longer defined. I want to create spaces in which the eye can wander – slowly, tentatively, curiously.
Pictures that are waiting to be discovered.’
