Dieses Diptychon ist ein visuelles Gedicht über Herkunft, Wandel und das Entstehen von Identität im Zwischenraum. Zwei Kulturen stehen sich gegenüber – nicht als Gegensätze, sondern als Pole einer inneren Bewegung. Das Wasser, das sie trennt, ist zugleich das, was sie verbindet: das Meer als Ort der Durchquerung, der Transformation, des Neubeginns.
Zwei Venusgestalten symbolisieren diese Pole. Die eine steht für den Ursprung, für Erinnerungen, Sprache, frühe Formen des Seins. Die andere für das Unbekannte, das Noch-zu-Erfindende, eine offene Zukunft. Sie reichen sich in der Mitte des Bildes die Hände – ein stiller, bedeutungsvoller Moment. Dort, wo sie sich begegnen, entsteht ein Selbstporträt von mir – als Künstlerin, als jemand, der zwischen den Kulturen lebt und sich darin verortet. Es ist ein Zwischenzustand, ein Sichtbarmachen dessen, was beides ist.
Die Venus erscheint hier als mehrdeutige Figur: Ursprung und Bewegung, Liebe und Wandel, Mythos und Möglichkeit. Sie ist das verbindende Prinzip, das nicht trennt, sondern vereint – über das Wasser hinweg, das alles trägt.
Dieses Werk ist nicht nur eine Reflexion über Transkulturalität, sondern auch ein persönliches Bild meines eigenen Werdens: vom Leben zwischen den Welten, vom kreativen Potenzial des Hybridseins, von Identität als etwas Fließendem.

A dream that feels intense and almost real, but which seems impossible to remember. A dream in which everything irrational makes sense and in which our true selves can express themselves freely, uninfluenced by the outside world. This is where Juliana finds her inspiration. Just like the Surrealists, she employs the technique of automatic drawing to sketch dreams whilst still in a semi-conscious state. Juliana combines abstract elements that embody the hazy memories of her Colombian homeland with precisely rendered sculptures that are visually reminiscent of European classicism. These depict the people who are part of our lives or who influence them. Some with greater intensity, others only faintly, almost forgotten. Nevertheless, each of them is or was significant. Dreams, too, shape us in a similar way. We can no longer remember many of them, but they still reside in our subconscious. They help us with decisions and occasionally provide us with answers.
The artist Juliana Gutiérrez Wiest does not choose the traditional canvas as her medium, but aluminium. This material brings the artwork to life; it absorbs light or reflects it back. At times it appears brighter, at others darker. This effect helps to create a blurred world.
During her art and multimedia studies at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich, Juliana learnt to combine the analogue world with the digital. She brings her artworks to life through projection, with the aim of enabling the viewer to immerse themselves in her works.
