Earlier this year I’ve been focused on confronting internal shame and learning to forgive myself. The ways in which people seek relief from these feelings vary widely, and that’s what inspired the title, „Forgive Me Daddy for I Have Sinned“, a nod to the diverse ways individuals search for redemption.
My friends started calling this piece „Kinky Jesus“ because of the humility of the figure and its central placement against a ‘heavenly’ backdrop, which reminded them of traditional European depictions of Jesus.Â
To me the intersection of iconography with themes of humility, vulnerability and desire creates a contrast that speaks to different aspects of the human condition, depending on who is engaging with it.
Krowni
Krowni’s artistic approach combines queer perspectives, pop-cultural references and a feminised aesthetic in her works. Her vibrantly coloured oil paintings explore, in a multi-layered way, intimacy, identity and society’s view of femininity.Â
Through compositions that are at times theatrical, kitsch ornamentation and a blend of classical and contemporary painting techniques, she transforms symbols of desire into personal and political commentary.
Her creative process begins with an idea that springs from memories, spontaneous observations or her photo archive, which she then translates into oil paintings.
Krowni is studying at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart in the painting class under Prof. Alisa Margolis and Katrin Plavcak. Her works have been shown in various exhibitions in and around Stuttgart, Berlin, Warsaw and her hometown in southern Germany.
