In the latest series of the ‘Gallery of Dancing Animals’, I continue my exploration of the dance-like elegance of heavy pachyderms. These six new drawings depict elephants in various dance poses, created on tinted paper using pencil and white coloured pencil. The preliminary sketches remain visible, offering a fascinating insight into the creative process, in which the lines gradually take shape to form the final motif. I have paid particular attention to the shading to lend depth and dynamism to the elephants’ massive bodies. Carefully placed highlights also create a strong contrast that emphasises the movement within the image. The series fits seamlessly into the larger project, which already includes dancing tortoises and other animals and playfully explores the balance between grace and heaviness.

SchoolAs
a young person, one often faces uncertainty in life. I wonder what the future will bring and where my place in this world is.
Yet despite, or perhaps precisely because of, this uncertainty, I am a dreamer. I have visions and goals that I want to achieve. My dreams overcome life’s doubts and shape my future.
In my art, new worlds are created. Places are brought to life; I venture into undiscovered lands that would otherwise never have existed.
Where does the journey lead now? I don’t know, but hopefully to a world full of fantasy and adventure.
