Christian Herzig
Initially, Herzig devoted himself intensively to landscape painting. For many years he worked en plein air, exploring landscapes such as forests, gardens, lakes and the sea. In doing so, he developed a keen sense of atmosphere and mood.
Over time, his work shifted increasingly to the studio, not least because of the limited opportunities for working outdoors during the winter months.
There, the human figure became the focus of his interest, often in conjunction with natural motifs. His sources of inspiration include, amongst other things, photographs from books, fashion catalogues and social media. Herzig is characterised by his deliberate stylistic diversity. He moves between depictions of nature, figuration and abstraction. He sees this openness as an expression of a multi-layered perception of the world.
