‘Substance rather than spectacle’ – in a world of hyper-production of images – algorithmic, instantaneous, superficial – the slow cultivation of perception offers an alternative model.

‘My starting point is the question of how perception arises – and how painting can open up spaces that lie between memory, atmosphere and abstraction. My ideas for images are based on personal experiences – they stem from a kind of emotional atlas. An inner collection of visual references, colour combinations, observations, experiences and sensations. I use colour not only as a visual medium, but as an atmospheric element, as a vehicle for tension, rhythm and time.

For me, the process of painting is a dialogue. I work in layers, overlaying, erasing and starting afresh. Every decision leaves its mark; every revision alters the direction of the painting. This gives rise to a pictorial structure that aims less at representation than at experience. I am interested in the moment when a form is just about to dissolve or a landscape is only still perceptible as an echo. The paintings therefore exist in an in-between space: between the visible and the remembered, between control and openness. Surfaces thicken or dissolve; transparencies shift in between; pictorial spaces can be broken open. The visible layers are part of the work – they tell of the process, of time and of decisions.

I see my painting as an open system. The paintings do not prescribe a single interpretation; they are invitations to perception. Ideally, viewing them creates a space of resonance in which colour, structure and memory interact.”

Claudia Meitert’s work operates at the intersection of painting, drawing and sculptural practice, developing a distinctive visual language characterised by formal precision and conceptual depth. Her works explore questions of perception, space and condensation, moving between figuration and abstraction.

Meitert has been working as a freelance artist since 2012. Her works have been presented in numerous institutional and independent exhibitions and are held in both private and public collections across Europe.

A central point of reference is her studies in painting and drawing at the Kolbermoor Academy of Fine Arts (2023–2026) as a master student of Prof. Markus Lüpertz, whose influence is evident in the painterly rigour and her confident handling of tradition and the contemporary.

In 2024, Meitert was a finalist in the Arte Laguna Prize, Venice.

As early as 2014/15, she was awarded a scholarship from the Oswald Zitzelsberger Art and Culture Foundation.

Meitert is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (BBK) and the New Art Association of Regensburg.
