AD(H)D is a mental health condition in which those affected experience problems with attention and self-regulation. Alongside symptoms such as impulsivity and difficulties concentrating, people with attention disorders are usually very creative.
His paintings represent the artist’s exploration of AD(H)D. His central question is how this condition can be artistically represented and, in particular, how ADHD can be made accessible to viewers. Valentin sees art as a counterbalance to his attention deficit disorder and is able to express himself fully, particularly through painting. He mostly works on abstract paintings, some of which have emerged from a sense of impulsivity. During the creative process, Valentin has drawn on the findings of his medical examinations to shed some light on the subject from a scientific perspective as well. The works captivate with their expressive colour palette. The artist uses spray and acrylic paints to achieve the intensity of colour. Through collage and various structural elements, the artist manages to depict the contrasts he feels deep within himself. These contrasts illustrate the struggle between concentration and attention deficit disorder.
