Luna Stender
Luna Stender is studying painting and graphic art at the HBK in Essen.
She is a young artist from Wuppertal. Art has been a major part of her life for as long as she can remember. Ever since her childhood and throughout her teenage years, visits to museums and exhibitions – such as ArtCologne – have been a welcome part of her colourful daily life.
At first, she painted colourful pictures in her bedroom, experimenting with different techniques. She would repeatedly alter and expand on old drawings she’d created as a child. Her courage to immerse herself in the art scene grew when she was given her first easel. Before long, her bedroom was filled with nothing but canvases, tubes of paint, paint pots and ‘art’ magazines.
In her work from her early years as an artist, vibrant colours and familiar comic-book faces meet a deeper emotional undercurrent. She herself describes her works as parts of a vast diary, as almost all her thoughts and feelings that arise whilst painting are quickly transferred onto the canvas. Consequently, every piece is adorned with individual and personal inscriptions.
In October 2022, she began her studies at the HBK in Essen/Wuppertal. Since then, she has spent most of her time in the classrooms and studios, constantly developing her skills and creating new works.
Falling asleep and waking up amidst paints, canvases and brushes; a situation which, as she herself says, she hopes will remain with her for a long time to come and which her studies will imbue with even greater significance. She wants to devote her life to art, as she knows this is her calling. It fills her with deep joy, and she is therefore certain that she will continue along this path.
Luna favours vibrant colours, high-quality materials and a wealth of detail, much of which is often only apparent at second glance.
