Artist statement
I explore reverse-glass painting and the various painting techniques and media
suitable for this field of practice. In this process, traditional
traditional painting materials with high-tech substances of the 21st century.
Accordingly, the focus driving my work lies in the ongoing
reinterpretation of various approaches within classical reverse-glass painting (informal
painting, Pop Art, Baroque stylistic tendencies, etc.). Methodologically, I achieve this, amongst other things,
by consciously referencing art-historical pictorial and formal devices, whilst equally
minimalist insertions of representational and figurative elements, which I attempt to translate pictorially into
into a contemporary form. The mere fact of planning the motifs in a mirror-inverted manner
of the motifs – which inevitably leads to a practical inversion of foreground and
background, is part of an ongoing exploration, part of the
endeavour to question the limitations of the available glass and pictorial surface and
ultimately transcend them. Individual areas that cannot be painted over
create a three-dimensional immediacy and, on closer inspection, reveal the
painting process to become visible. Overall, I see myself striving to
to reflect, in an immersive way, the emotional states and trance-like conditions that manifest themselves within the scope of a distinctive,
diverse colour palette,
as it were, testing the extent to which these, through the possibilities of layering and
the positioning within the frame into a moment of aesthetic potentiation.
