I
’m so glad you’ve foundMy name is Thalea and I’m studying for a Master’s degree in ‘Art, Media and Cultural Education’ at the Institute for Art Education at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. I’m currently in my third semester of the Graphic Art and Painting course with Professor Kerstin Gottschalk. I’ve been a member of SKM since 2022.
In my art, I explore the human body, transience and the natural cycle of life. True beauty arises from individuality. This individuality would not exist if there were no deviations from the supposed ideal – those things society labels as ‘flaws’, ‘imperfections’ or ‘quirks’. It is the body’s uniqueness that makes people interesting. Through my art, I wish to challenge the physical ideal, particularly the idealised image of women. In some of my works, the diversity and constant change of the body are evident. Floral elements open up a second layer of meaning, as flowers share many parallels with the human body. They bloom in their own individual beauty and reflect the cycle of life. Transience and change are a major part of this, as the human body is always in interaction and in close relationship with time. Through my art, I aim to understand life, to appreciate change, and to view transience as a positive stimulus that breathes more life into life itself.
I have had a passion
for art ever since I was a child. Starting out with pencil drawings, I experimented with various drawing media, sketching with charcoal, graphite or chalk pencils, and ventured into watercolour painting. It was only after taking my advanced art course that I began painting with acrylics on paper, a skill I later developed further during my degree. At present, I particularly enjoy painting on large-format canvases, which I often construct, stretch and prime myself. For me, this phase is just as important as the painting itself, as it is here that the foundation of the work is laid.
