Behind beauty there always lies something unsettling. In the series “Men and Gardens”, I construct images whose spatial location – much like in a dream – cannot be clearly determined. I seek out contradictions and their reconciliation within a formal context. This quest requires both empty spaces and figures. I am less interested in the depiction itself than in creating a mysterious atmosphere that permeates its surroundings like nocturnal music. This imaginary music suggests vastness and tranquillity, refuge and solitude, fear and longing.
Oil on Figueras paper mounted on wood. The work is signed, dated and dispatched with a certificate of authenticity.
