"Chaos, destruction and unrest. When I do finally pluck up the courage to switch on the telly to watch the news, I’m hit by a huge wave of grim reports from all over the world. The newspapers report on horrific shootings in the neighbourhood; the radio echoes the same grim news.
Amidst all this trouble and turmoil, I like to sit down at my table in a quiet moment and process my thoughts through art. But there must also be days when we take refuge in daydreams and beauty, and I feel it is almost a duty to always highlight the positive sides of life. Hence a motif that serves purely to soothe and cheer: a little rabbit. The cool shades of blue are intended to emphasise the tranquillity of the motif, whilst at the same time the rabbit is painted in a very dynamic manner in places."
This is a painting in acrylic on canvas. The canvas is stretched over a wooden frame and the work is supplied unframed.
Michelle Mall
Michelle Mall was born on 11 July 1997 in Stuttgart. She completed a teacher training degree in biology and art at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and the University of Hohenheim. She now works full-time as a teacher of this subject combination.
Her artistic work focuses on the study of nature, form and colour, as well as various contemporary themes. Her analogue acrylic paintings strike a balance between coarse and fine brushstrokes, whilst her digital paintings present surrealist social criticism in a ‘beautiful’ package. Digital works are also sold as art prints in limited editions.
Art and literature have always been closely linked for her. Texts – whether standing alone or accompanying her work – are an integral part of her practice as an artist. For the past two years, texts and independent publications have become an increasingly significant part of her body of work.
