"The Spirits on My Path" is one of those works that is very close to my heart. It took me a year to complete the painting, and another two years before I was ready to pass it on to someone else. It’s not my place to dictate interpretations or meanings – who knows what story the painting might tell you? I can only reveal a little about the creative process. I began it in late autumn – a time which, I feel, holds many secrets. It is a time for walks in the woods, amongst the skeletal trees and the colourful carpet of fallen leaves. A time for reflection and closure, and at the same time always a time for new beginnings. The boundaries between the old and the new, the mystical and the real, and the ethereal and the physical become blurred. It was on such a journey that I set out.
