Rosalie Upmeier
DE
Rosalie Upmeier is in her fourth year of art studies at the HfBK in Dresden, where she is a student in Helen Verhoeven’s class.
Rosalie Upmeier’s work explores the complex relationship between distortion and perception. Through oil painting and drawing, she examines the complexity of the human figure and our understanding of everyday scenes.
In her works, she focuses on the human form in familiar settings, yet simultaneously creates a sense of strangeness that challenges the viewer’s perception. By distorting form and perspective, she reveals hidden layers of ordinary moments and encourages us to reflect on the peculiarities of everyday life that often go unnoticed.
In other works, she uses embroidery to explore biological themes, particularly skin conditions and the various forms and colours that skin can take on. By translating these conditions into embroidery, she removes them from their original context and creates a space in which beauty and unease coexist. Embroidery, traditionally associated with ornamentation and embellishment, thus becomes a medium that explores the tension between decoration and revulsion.
Through both painting and embroidery, Rosalie Upmeier questions the boundaries between beauty and unease and invites viewers to see the everyday and organic forms in new, unexpected ways.
