Zum Bild:
Im Zuge meiner neu begonnenen Serie ‚Eye Contact‘ aus 2024 erschaffe ich ein formsprachliches Spiel der Kontraste. Grober Duktus wechselt sich mit realistischen Elementen, die fein in Öl gearbeitet werden, ab. Eine Symbiose aus Anspannung und Entspannung, letztendlich auch ein Spiel zwischen Malerischen Qualitäten. Zum Titel lässt sich festhalten, dass auch hier bewusst auf Gegensätzlichkeit gesetzt wurde. Der Zylinder, der sich zum Symbol des Bürgertums avancierte, gepaart mit dem Doktortitel einer der beiden namensgebenden Figuren, steht im starken Widerspruch zu seinem infantil anmutenden Namen „Rasselmann“. Auch den in braun gehaltenen, dreieckigen Gegenstand, den er in seiner Hand hält, könnte man namensgebend assoziieren.
Doch wer ist sein Begleiter, dessen Halskrause ebenfalls an vergangene Zeiten erinnert und was erlebt dieses sonderbare Duo vor den architektonischen Arkaden im Hintergrund?

In his paintings, Collmann focuses almost exclusively on the human figure as his central thematic motif, portraying it in an abstract manner and creating a process-driven interplay of colours and forms that combines a dynamic brushstroke with graphic elements – the result is a compelling symbiosis in which gestural freedom and compositional rigour interpenetrate.
Thematically, he operates on the borderline between abstraction and figuration, exploring the fragile balance between closeness and distance in human interaction. The works thus serve as surfaces onto which emotional ambivalences are projected, reflecting both the longing for intimacy and the need for individuality.
