The mixed-media aesthetic emphasises the process-oriented nature of painting. Traces of the working process remain visible, lending the surface individuality and vitality. The result is a work whose impact arises both from the overall composition and from a close examination of individual elements of colour and texture.

Description of the artwork
This expressive mixed-media work unfolds a vibrant interplay of colour, texture and gestural movement. Luminous shades of pink and coral meet bold red, deep navy blue, warm orange and nuanced shades of green and yellow. Light, lavender-coloured and creamy white accents create striking contrasts within a multi-layered, open composition.
The expressive application of paint gives rise to a variety of textures and surfaces. Visible brushstrokes, overlapping layers of paint and deliberately placed areas of colour lend the work an immediate, almost physical presence. Between density and openness, tranquillity and dynamism, a rhythmic structure emerges that repeatedly guides the viewer’s gaze across the picture plane.
The composition eschews any unambiguous representational depiction. Rather, it opens up a space for individual association, in which organic forms, landscape-like echoes and free movements of colour interweave. The painting reveals itself not through a predetermined narrative, but through the sensory experience of colour, texture and composition.
The canvas is stretched onto a stretcher frame approximately 3 cm deep. This gives the work a three-dimensional effect and allows it to be presented as a standalone original.
SHIPPING The work is shipped stretched onto a stretcher frame, including a certificate of authenticity and the artist’s signature on the reverse.

CONCEPT & PROCESS
“For me, the act of painting represents a way of communicating something I cannot put into words. I don’t really think or paint – I simply exist in the moment, acting intuitively and reacting. My focus is on immediate experience, clarity and leaving questions open. I don’t see myself as a storyteller – my work conveys a feeling rather than a story. There may be a lot of history behind it, but you don’t need to know it to grasp it. It’s comparable to music. You don’t need to understand the score of a symphony to enjoy it – you can simply experience the sounds.”
BACKGROUND
Julia Sophia Neundorf has been living and working in Erfurt since 2014. She has been an artist with the Meet Frida Foundation in Hamburg since 2024 and has exhibited several times in the Hanseatic city as well as in Berlin. She began drawing on her plaster cast at a very early age, following a serious accident involving her cervical spine and a related near-death experience. Once she was able to walk again, she never stopped being creative and quickly developed this into her greatest passion: painting. Early extracurricular support in the field of art paved the way for her future. She became a sculptor in 2013 and subsequently began studying art and literary studies. Since 2019, she has been working in her own studio alongside her studies.
