"For me, this work represents a kind of time capsule. Youth is carefree, feels immortal, is deeply confused, yet full of passion and idealism at the same time. I believe that everyone carries this inner youth within them, who, just like us young people, are experiencing everything for the first time and yearn for more. The term ‘Euphancholie’ is a neologism coined by Benedict Wells, combining the feelings of euphoria and melancholy.” – Jacobs

Lucia Jacobs
After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Art, Education and Therapy in the Media Studies programme at Alanus University of Applied Sciences in Bonn, the 25-year-old is currently studying film directing at the International Film School Cologne. As a finalist for the 2024 BFF Support Award, she produced the photo series ‘Nach uns die Sintflut 2.0’ and is currently working on the post-production of her debut short film, Kill a Darling.
Her aim is to create beauty amidst turbulent times – using a visual language that both questions and enchants. Guided by the motto ‘Who are you when nobody is watching?’, she turns her lens towards hidden realities beyond the staged world of social media. With a great passion for detail and symbolism, as well as a keen sense of light and colour, she succeeds in creating visual worlds that lie between reality and dreams. Alongside her artistic work, she is involved in organising and curating the NEXT Youth Photography Festival, writes poetry, and is delighted to meet people who share her passion for photography and wish to incorporate her works into their private or public spaces.
