In the series “Fabelhafte Fabel”, I explore memories from my childhood. As a child, I lived with my parents in a region of Brazil rich in natural beauty, in a house without electricity. In the evenings, by candlelight, my parents would tell my older sister and me a fable or a fairy tale. These stories took my imagination on grand journeys of the mind and created colourful moments. The next day, I would ask my sister what images the fable had conjured up in her mind – what the characters and places looked like in her imagination. We were always fascinated that each of us had created a completely unique universe from the same story.

I tell stories through colours and shapes. Your imagination, too, interprets the colours and shapes quite differently from how I do, and from how anyone else does. And that’s the most wonderful thing! Because it shows just how special every person is and how uniquely each of us views the world.
…And just as I used to chat with my sister under the trees or along a river the next day about the fables and fairy tales from the night before, perhaps one day we’ll share our thoughts too; about what you see in the embroidered pictures and where your imagination has taken you. Who knows – the world is big, but there are plenty of trees and rivers where we might bump into each other by chance…
