What I create is who I am. It’s about the sacred state of creation, when I lose all sense of time, feel as though I’m dreaming, yet at the same time have never felt so alive. I infuse my art with intention. First and foremost comes an emotion, a feeling, followed by a thought that blossoms into a quote. I cannot think of anything else until I’ve put it down on paper, onto a canvas, carved it into ceramics or written it onto my bare skin. After the intention comes the setting: I smudge the room, light the candles, and play the sound of deep, humbling drums and mellow flutes. I move my body, move my brush, use my hands and build layer upon layer. The creative process is a liberating ritual; it’s like opening a door, allowing my truest self to step through and take control. At the heart of my work lie personal growth, acceptance and forgiveness – it’s about finding the courage to embrace vulnerability. Ultimately, it is my art that sets me truly free.
