This large-scale oil painting combines a creative, experimental form of photorealism with a cinematic narrative style that reflects my memories. I drew on visual references for the subject matter, but used them less to depict the scene itself and more as inspiration for the highly contrasting colour scheme.
A cross-processed analogue slide film served as the template here. Thanks to the special chemical treatment, the film – which had been expired for years – developed the distinctive colour atmosphere captured in the painting after exposure.
I painted the picture on genuine flax linen using pigments of the highest quality and durability. Only once the painting was complete did I stretch it onto a stretcher frame I had made myself. As with all my works, I crafted this from recycled scrap wood without the aid of energy-intensive power tools. This lends the work a sense of sustainability that is important to me and emphasises its uniqueness. However, it also means that the edge of the painting is sometimes subject to the natural properties of the non-industrially processed wood, meaning it may occasionally exhibit slight warping.

I began my artistic career with an apprenticeship as a stonemason and sculptor. I am now studying figurative painting at Alanus University in Andreas Orosz’s class.
The subjects of my paintings are varied, and what they all have in common is, above all, a wide-ranging interest in the world. I pursue my spirit of discovery using various methods; sometimes I paint from memory, but whenever possible I also enjoy painting ‘en plein air’ on location. My enjoyment of various photographic techniques also helps me to engage with a subject.
