‘keep yourself alive’ comes across as a quiet yet urgent self-reflection. In swift, raw brushstrokes, shades of green, blue and yellow overlap to form a vibrant surface that oscillates between hope and unease. The colour palette evokes nature, healing and growth, yet remains fragmented and fragile – nothing is fully articulated; everything is a work in progress.
The handwritten line of text functions less as a message to others and more as an inner reminder: a sentence intended to provide support whilst everything around one is in flux. The minimalist, childlike figure at the edge appears as a silent witness to this state – vulnerable, yet present.
The work oscillates between intuition and resistance, between feeling overwhelmed and self-assertion. It explores the theme of persevering in everyday life, of carrying on despite internal and external fractures – not heroically, but honestly.

, I’m Charlie Matthew, also known as StAR.
Since 2018, my life has revolved around painting. After completing my degree in graphic design in 2025, I began studying fine art at the HfBK Dresden.
My works are nostalgic, left-leaning pieces that explore my own emotional worlds.
Each piece captures a moment that isn’t clear-cut – a state of in-between. Lines, colours and shapes reflect inner processes that can’t always be put into words. The works invite you to recognise yourself in these transitions, regardless of gender or identity.
