My childhood in my arms
2026
Dimensions: 60 × 60 cm
Technique / Material: Oil and acrylic on canvas
My search for balance lies somewhere between letting go and finding a foothold.
In my artistic work, interpersonal closeness becomes the driving force that can overcome loneliness, grief and crises:
Affection and care become a quiet force that enables healing and regeneration.
I focus on the strength of female solidarity, which embodies a quiet resilience in our care for one another. Touch is a recurring element here: embraces, support, closeness.
Vulnerability becomes the source of strength capable of overcoming grief and loneliness. Women’s bodies support, hold and carry one another, nestled within protective landscapes, and embody the longing for tranquillity and regeneration.
The cyclical processes of nature symbolise the creative power of femininity, characterised by recurring cycles of destruction and healing. Through a minimalist yet experimental formal language, I seek physical forms of expression for feelings of affection, loneliness and grief.
I move between design and fine art. Following my Bachelor’s degree in Design, I studied Fine Art under Prof. Christian Macketanz at the HfBK Dresden. Two semesters abroad in Spain, as well as study trips to India, Italy and Greece, amongst other places, have shaped my artistic perspective. From this semester onwards, I am continuing my studies in art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg.

Belén Nicole Otto Ruiz is in her fifth semester studying Fine Art in the figurative painting specialism at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts and has already completed a Bachelor’s degree in Nuremberg.
The essence of my artistic work lies in a deep longing for inner peace, security and love, as well as the quest for harmony and tranquillity in a time of turmoil.
The urge to retreat into unspoilt nature finds expression in the fusion of figures and landscapes into an inseparable whole. Within this unity, the figures seek shelter and security in the shade of the leaves of secluded nature, allowing silence to take hold.
The simplicity and primal quality of the natural environment, and the depiction of female figures, are inspired by Mother Nature herself. They symbolise humanity’s deep appreciation of and connection to nature, to the earth and to the soil from which all life springs.
My visual language explores the rawness of the human being, their body and their surroundings within a dynamic tension between distance and closeness, security and confinement, connection and separation.
A key aspect of my artistic approach lies in the externalisation of the creative process. Here, familiar visual conventions meet exploratory and experimental approaches. The diversity of the formal language strikes a harmonious balance between intuitive, conceptual and graphic elements. A central focus of my work is the search for harmony between opposites.
