Lena Willmann
Her art is a blend of kitsch and taboo-breaking – with themes such as lust, eroticism and feminism as central focal points.
She is fascinated by the interplay of shame and exposure – her subjects are naked and uncensored, laid bare for all to see, a state she explores in depth in her images.
She is also particularly concerned with the balance between intimacy and distance in her work, whilst repeatedly attempting to venture a glance below the belt in order to give expression to themes such as sexualisation and abuse.
Alongside her focus on classical oil painting, a number of experimental approaches can also be found amongst Willmann’s works. Through installations made of fabric and faux fur, she seeks to make the intimacy of her works tangible not only visually but also through the materials themselves.
