Description

In this body of work, photography is my medium of expression. I placed bright red gummy bears shaped like firearms on the surface of the female body.

The weapon, as a symbol of the other, of a system and its structures, appears as a sweet little thing – seductive, yet with such massive consequences arising from its metaphorical meaning.

Red gummy bears on female skin initially appear playful, but through their arrangement and, inevitably, their shape, they transform into symbols of aggression and oppression. These mundane sweets reveal how threats are often rooted in the everyday and the trivialised. As the woman steps out of her passive role and actively engages with these symbols, this act of making them visible becomes a highly political one.

Judith Blodig

Judith Blodig, born in Suhl in 1981, studied fine art at Macromedia University in Freiburg under Prof. Ben Hübsch and Caroline von Gunten.

Her works have been represented by SKM since early 2022.

She works with oil paint on canvas and also explores other artistic fields through small objects and her voice.

Through oil painting, she captures the emotional reality of a moment on canvas.

She uses the play of light, surface qualities and spatial relationships to convey the intimacy of the moment and the connection between the subjects.

Inspired by her personal connections, her works create spaces for reflection on emotionality, distance and touch.
