A small-format plein air painting from 2022, painted in oil on canvas and subsequently glued onto a wooden backing board.
‘Plein air’ means the painting was created outdoors in a single session. Once the paint had dried, I glued the canvas onto a wooden backing board. The edges of the backing board have also been primed and painted white with high-quality oil paint, so they will not yellow over time in contrast to the painting. As the wood is ‘Rcycletes’ reclaimed from old pallets, the work has a deliberately rustic look. The painting was exhibited at the Alanus Tour 2023.
Before dispatch, the painting will, of course, be varnished and fitted with a hanging mechanism.
Valentin Weller
I began my artistic career with an apprenticeship as a stonemason and sculptor. I am now studying figurative painting at Alanus University in Andreas Orosz’s class.
The subjects of my paintings are varied, and what they all have in common is, above all, a wide-ranging interest in the world. I pursue my spirit of discovery using various methods; sometimes I paint from memory, but whenever possible I also enjoy painting ‘en plein air’ on location. My enjoyment of various photographic techniques also helps me to engage with a subject.
