Kurzbeschreibung :Â
Als koreanische Künstlerin setze ich mich in meiner Arbeit intensiv mit den kulturellen Unterschieden zwischen Asien und Europa auseinander. Dabei vereine ich Inspirationen aus der koreanischen Volkskunst mit westlichen Maltechniken, die ich im Laufe meiner Ausbildung erlernt habe.
Die Schrankserie ist von der europäischen Bauernmalerei inspiriert, jedoch stammen die Bildmotive – wie Pflanzen, Tiere und Ornamente – aus der koreanischen Volksmalerei Minhwa 민화.
Minhwa bezeichnet volkstümliche Malerei, die seit der Joseon-Dynastie von einfachen Menschen geschaffen und genutzt wurde. Sie war weit mehr als bloße Dekoration, denn in den Bildern wurden Wünsche und Hoffnungen des täglichen Lebens in symbolischer Form dargestellt. So stehen etwa Kraniche, Hirsche, Pinien oder der Pilz der Unsterblichkeit (Bullocho) für den Wunsch nach einem langen Leben. Abgebildete Tierpaare – wie Enten oder Vögel – symbolisieren eheliche Harmonie und das Glück einer dauerhaften Partnerschaft. Darüber hinaus finden sich auch Symbole für Gelehrsamkeit, Nachkommenschaft, Wohlstand oder allgemeines Lebensglück. In ihrer Gesamtheit spiegeln Minhwa-Bilder den Wunsch wider, dass sich die Hoffnungen der Menschen im eigenen Leben erfüllen mögen.

: “I have a keen interest in traditional arts in general and find particular inspiration in traditional Korean folk art. I express this through Western painting techniques which I learnt during my training. On the one hand, this serves to ease my homesickness; on the other, because traditional folk art is often more than just aesthetic objects. It frequently contains primal and symbolic elements that reflect the rich cultural history of a people and serve as a source of inspiration for me. The figures in my works are created through exaggeration, distortion and abstraction. Through my art, I tell stories about my origins, my dreams or even the story of a third person. I use various materials and techniques, as I select the most suitable media and formats depending on the theme in order to convey the content I have created in the best possible way."
