"The Sacrifice" is a work born of surreal compositions that invites the viewer to construct their own stories.
The firebugs in the picture remind me of my childhood, when they were always present in the garden whilst I was playing.
The title “The Sacrifice” is inspired by Tarkovsky’s film. In his spiritual parable, self-sacrifice is depicted for the sake of a higher ideal. The character Alexander, the protagonist of “The Sacrifice”, is a further development of Domenico from Tarkovsky’s previous work. The fact that Alexander sets fire to his house at the end of the film is merely a different, more symbolic version of Domenico’s act of suicide in the service of a Christian ideal.
This painting serves as a platform for me to explore recurring themes such as Christian motifs and suicidal thoughts within my family. The depiction of a burning house in the painting reflects the conflict between a supposedly ‘carefree’ childhood and the difficulties that family circumstances can entail.
The underwater creatures in the painting are subtle references to the unconscious, a plunge into the beautiful yet unsettling depths of the water. “The Sacrifice” becomes a depiction of memories, cultural influences and deep emotions, representing the process of coming to terms with the past and reflection.

Painting
Her painting springs from spontaneous emotion, offering scope for experimentation and the pure joy of creative expression. Whilst academic art education often tends to suppress or conceptualise this authenticity, she carefully preserves it in her painting.
Her creative space allows her to transcend boundaries and make room for the unexpected, resulting in series in which she captures friends and colleagues in various depictions. During the Covid-19 crisis, she also portrayed her neighbourhood, ranging from unaffordable flats to the socially deprived area of Kottbusser Tor.
Her art extends beyond realistic scenes to include depictions of dreams on a surreal level, forming a creative bridge to her sculptural works.

sculptures are an expression of her artistic vision, which focuses on viewing the human being as an architectural structure. Inspired by her childhood fascination with her ancestors’ doll’s house, every room in this metaphorical house symbolises a unique facet of human character. She sees this complex doll’s house within every individual, representing the multi-layered nature of emotions and experiences. Her art explores the significance of self-awareness and delves into the unconscious microcosm that encompasses dreams and the vast world of the subconscious. Through her sculptures, Augart seeks to play with these elements from dreams and to build a bridge between dream and reality.
