Irina Zich
Portraits of people are at the heart of Irina Zich’s paintings. She draws inspiration for her works from reality, yet her paintings speak for themselves and exist independently of their source material. The subjects Irina selects are never depicted realistically; instead, she alters them in terms of colour, arrangement and lighting. Irina is not concerned with presenting a faithful representation of reality, but rather a glimpse into her imagination. In these newly composed motifs, she seeks to achieve a harmonious and balanced composition. This is characterised by the interplay between somewhat abstract and representational visual elements, and a blend of precision and openness, clarity and ambivalence. The intensity in the faces contrasts with open planes, thereby creating a sense of tension.
