Info: This is the first painting in my new series ‘unravel’, in which I explore the theme of nudity.
My thoughts on this:
Unravelling. Freeing oneself from conventions and thought patterns. Being naked. Being here. Feeling and being slow. Touch. Vulnerability and protection. How much am I at home in my own body? How naked am I really in front of myself and others? Behind which masks do I hide?
The stretcher frame is 5 cm wide and has a slight bulge on the left-hand side (visible in the photos); this is a deliberate artistic choice, which is justified by the message of the picture.
Marie Hesse
Delicate, light, stormy and dark colours coexist and converge in Marie Hesse’s works to
form an energy of expression. Through her painting, the artist creates an expression of connection
with the feminine and the cyclical, the rhythmic and the physical, and with the inner and
outer worlds. The rhythm of her inner world is conveyed through spontaneous painterly gestures of her body.
As well as painting in her studio, the artist paints live to music as part of a performance.

Marie Hesse completed her Bachelor’s degree in Art, Education and Therapy at Alanus University in the winter semester of 2024, specialising in painting. She attended the painting classes of Jim Harris, Dominik Halmer and Beatricé Chron.
