The moment I apply paint to the canvas, I begin a dialogue with what I am creating. Using contrasts between warm and cool tones – sometimes quite stark – I aim to create a mood and translate it onto the canvas. I am not necessarily concerned with showing what is visible. Rather, I wish to depict the space in between, the subtext, and make this perceptible to the viewer.
Although I am very clear in what I do, I also experiment with various supports, media and figures. There is a vast space between figuration and abstraction that I wish to explore.
