My years in theatre and opera have shaped my painting. I think in terms of scenes, moods and inner states – influenced by Jürgen Rose, Dieter Dorn and Thomas Ostermeier. I am currently studying again under Markus Lüpertz. Through him, my painting gains in expressiveness and seriousness; it is through this interplay that I develop my own position between figuration and abstraction.
My female figures embody both strength and vulnerability – an act of self-assertion and a questioning of traditional ways of seeing. For me, a good painting must draw the viewer in – it must be both a mystery and a promise.
