The work is shipped stretched on a stretcher frame – including a certificate of authenticity and the artist’s signature on the reverse.

The work is inspired by ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’ by Delia Owens and explores central themes of the novel: loneliness, a connection to nature, and the cycle of loss and new beginnings.

The quotations incorporated into the image appear partly fragmented and superimposed – they reflect the complexity of human experience and point to the intertwining of language, memory and emotion.

The powerful blocks of colour, contrasts and overlays create a tension between freedom and order, between inner chaos and the need for connection. This gives rise to a visual echo of the landscape in which the novel’s character, Kya, also finds her identity and freedom.

. Sophie Bäumer, born in Cologne in 1996, is an up-and-coming artist who has maintained a close connection with painting and creative processes since childhood. Her journey in the art world has been characterised by a continuous quest for self-expression and artistic growth. Her passion for painting developed at an early age, when she began to view the world around her through the lens of art.From 2017 to 2020, she studied art education and therapy at the renowned Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences near Bonn. During her studies, she not only honed her technical skills but also deepened her understanding of the therapeutic power of art.Today, Sophie Bäumer lives in Stuttgart, where she creates her works and continues to develop her artistic expression. Her works are characterised by their versatility and depth. In her paintings, she combines various styles and techniques, through which she has developed a unique visual language. Her art is often characterised by emotional intensity and personal expression, offering a deep insight into her own journey of self-discovery and reflection. Her works are not only visually appealing but also encourage reflection on themes such as identity, emotions and the connection between art and therapy.
