My visit to August Macke’s house and his biography prompted me to engage deeply with social change and timeless questions. I was particularly fascinated by his unique use of colour and the notion of paradise that resonates throughout many of his works. Macke’s ‘Zoologischer Garten’ encourages us to reflect on our relationship with nature, gender roles and tolerance, both then and now.

I am a 24-year-old artist with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art and am currently studying art at the Alanus University of Arts and Social Sciences in Alfter. I have been attending Prof. Dr Ulrika Eller-Rüter’s class there ever since. In my predominantly figurative paintings, which I create mainly in oil and acrylic, I explore themes of identity, role models, sexualisation, advertising aesthetics and the concept of ‘cuteness’. As well as painting, I also work with photography, drawing and other media and techniques.
