Emiliano Bartling

Emiliano Bartling (born 2000) is a painter based in Hamburg. He is currently studying at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts under Simon Denny. Previously, Emiliano studied painting and sculpture at the Braunschweig University of Art under Frances Scholz and Thomas Rentmeister, where he was awarded the Deutschlandstipendium in 2023.

Since 2024, his work has been supported by a grant from the Cusanuswerk’s renowned artist support programme.

His works are characterised by a conceptual approach to painting that appears almost three-dimensional and sculptural. A field of tension emerges between the pictorial and the abstract, drawing on art-historical references as well as contemporary pop culture, internet aesthetics and technical visual worlds. With humour and a passion for materials, he questions norms and viewing habits, thereby striking a unique balance between seriousness and wit.
