The painting “body image I” is the first work in a three-part series, created in a square format using acrylic on canvas. In this series, I explore the body and how it is perceived, shaped by the idealised images that bombard us daily. The square format is intended, not least, to evoke the idealised bodies of the Instagram world. The paintings thus offer a glimpse behind the scenes of the viewers who consume these distorted images. The result is a distorted self-perception. Over the course of the series, the ‘non-ideal’ body thus transforms into a sort of ulcer that is ultimately to be cast off.
