Lou Stark
born in Filderstadt in 1996, grew up in Stuttgart and was exposed to art from a very young age, as both her father and grandfather are artists.
After completing her A-levels, Lou studied for a year at the Freie Kunst Schule in Stuttgart in 2015 and then began her teacher training in 2016, specialising in art and sport at the University of Stuttgart and the ABK Stuttgart. There, Lou completed her Bachelor of Arts and is currently studying for her Master of Science in a painting class led by Alisa Margolis.
From the outset, Lou’s painting was highly figurative, partly inspired by her technical training at the FKS. In 2022, Lou’s work explored themes of depression, escapism and isolation following a break-up. This led to a series of self-portraits, with which she was also represented for the first time at the Students’ Art Market. Building on this work, she created a series of figurative paintings in which Lou explores the theme of female friendships. These are strongly inspired by the artist’s own circle of friends and tell the stories of the strong, independent women in Lou’s life and how these friends support one another.
