Description

"Godimento della vita" is Italian and means "joy of life". With a friendly smile, the subject of the portrait seeks to convince us to start the day with motivation and a positive attitude. The work is a tribute to that charming person in our lives who, time and again, with a twinkle in their eye, encourages us to tackle the day with renewed energy (even when we might not feel like it).

The stereotypical representation of the cheerful person is painted in a rough and impulsive style in places, whilst in others the artist loses themselves in the detail. The artwork explores the interplay between many and few details, light and dark shades of grey, and closed and open forms.

It is an acrylic painting on canvas, with a wooden frame on the back of the canvas. (The artwork is supplied unframed)

Michelle Mall

Biography

Michelle Mall was born on 11 July 1997 in Stuttgart. She completed a teacher training degree in biology and art at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart and the University of Hohenheim. She now works full-time as a teacher of this subject combination.

Her artistic work focuses on the study of nature, form and colour, as well as various contemporary themes. Her analogue acrylic paintings strike a balance between coarse and fine brushstrokes, whilst her digital paintings present surrealist social criticism in a ‘beautiful’ package. Digital works are also sold as art prints in limited editions.

Art and literature have always been closely linked for her. Texts – whether standing alone or accompanying her work – are an integral part of her practice as an artist. For the past two years, texts and independent publications have become an increasingly significant part of her body of work.
