Franca Plohr
Franca Plohr is studying for a Master’s degree in Art at the University of Osnabrück. Her focus is on painting (Prof. Sigrun Jakubaschke-Ehlers) and sculpture (Prof. Dr Bärbel Schlüter). She holds a studio grant at the D23 collective studio. In 2023, she was nominated for the Ingeborg Sieber Foundation’s Art Promotion Prize. In 2025, she was awarded the same prize jointly with the collective 6inRaum12.
Working Method
In her artistic practice, she places the process at the centre. Her painting moves between powerful gestures and tranquil flatness, and thrives on the tension between exercising control and conscious letting go.
She works intuitively and sees the creative process as an active dialogue between herself, the canvas and the material. The materiality is allowed to develop its own language and help shape the outcome.
Her work is characterised by a reduced colour palette – usually no more than three colours – which she manipulates in a variety of ways to create different textures, atmospheres and effects.
