Katharina Büttgen

Katharina Büttgen lives and works in Karlsruhe. She first studied art and philosophy (to become a teacher) at the University of Cologne, followed by a degree in Fine Art under Prof. Franz Ackermann and Prof. Marcel Van Eeden at the Karlsruhe Academy of Fine Art. Her artistic practice explores Belarusian identity, memory and political repression. She combines photography, textile techniques and artistic research to create works that explore memory, protest and collective experience.

Her works have been exhibited internationally, including in Bulgaria at the Varna Art Festival (2025), the FRIGE Art Festival in Warsaw (2025) and in Switzerland. Further exhibitions have taken place in Berlin, Cologne, Bonn and Karlsruhe (among other venues). In addition to solo and duo shows, she is regularly featured in group exhibitions. Katharina Büttgen has already been selected for several artist residencies.
