Abigail Gebre
my name is niquu eyeta. My practice emerges from lived experience and an attunement to the natural environment, healing systems, and ancestral knowledge.
Unique to my practice is that I mainly use plant pigments and organic materials. These materials have their own properties and stories in giving the space or the viewer a sense of calm expansiveness. I make the textile works by assembling, layering, and sewing different kinds of cotton or linen fabrics.
It is important to me that my practice is a product of care for the environment around us, for the plants and animals, and with that, the work calls for care as well. That means do not hang in direct sunlight or in too humid spaces.
