About this work:

My most recent works explore the fragility and interdependence of ecosystems, with a particular focus on the lives of bees. Both their presence and their absence have profound effects on nature and consequences for humanity.

Through large-format works arranged in narrative sequences, I attempt to depict the world from a bee’s perspective. In my paintings, this is expressed through a soft, muted colour palette and compositions that explore the boundary between clarity and distortion. The paintings depict scenes from nature, such as blurred flowers in flight or the structures of honeycombs, and use these geometric forms to structure the canvas. The deliberate use of distortion lends the works a surreal quality and emphasises the dissonance between human perception and the sensory world of bees.

The layering of oil paints and the dynamic application of colour across the canvas create a sense of movement and atmosphere. The contrast between highly structured, detailed and vibrant passages and calmer, fading elements – such as the decay of wilted flowers – simultaneously highlights both the vitality and the vulnerability of natural systems. With these subtle hints of transience, I wish to draw attention to the need to protect these tiny creatures, just as they quietly protect us.

geometric forms to divide the canvas. The deliberate use of distortion introduces a

surreal quality, highlighting the dissonance between human perception and the

sensory world of bees.

The process of layering oil paints and pushing the paint across the canvas allows me

to create a sense of movement and atmosphere. The contrast between highly structured,

detailed and vibrant work alongside more muted elements, such as the decay of wilting flowers,

suggests both the vitality and vulnerability of natural systems. I play with these subtle

hints of impermanence to highlight the need to protect these small creatures, just as

they silently protect us.
