Martin Collmann beschäftigt sich in seiner künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung grundsätzlich mit der Thematik der menschlichen Figur, sei es in Form von Portraitdarstellungen oder auch größeren figurativen Darstellungen einer oder mehrerer Personen. Die Farb- und Formauswahl erfolgt dabei explorativ innerhalb des Entwicklungsprozesses in diversen übereinandergelagerten Schichten.

In dieser Arbeit erforscht er die Symbiose aus abstrakter Exploration und realistischer Ölmalerei. Es ist ein Spiel der Kontraste zwischen Material, Form und Abstraktionsgrad. Daraus ergibt sich letztendlich eine fragmetierte, menschenähnliche Entität mit geometrischem Haar.

Martin Collmann

Martin Collmann, born in Osnabrück in 1991, studied art with a specialisation in painting (under Prof. Jakubaschke-Ehlers and Wolfgang Meluhn) at the University of Osnabrück (Master’s degree in 2025).

In his paintings, Collmann focuses almost exclusively on the human figure as his central thematic motif, portraying it in an abstract manner and creating a process-driven interplay of colours and forms that combines a dynamic brushstroke with graphic elements – the result is a compelling symbiosis in which gestural freedom and compositional rigour interpenetrate.

Thematically, he operates on the borderline between abstraction and figuration, exploring the fragile balance between closeness and distance in human interaction. The works thus serve as surfaces onto which emotional ambivalences are projected, reflecting both the longing for intimacy and the need for individuality.
