The works in the “B/W 4 Ü 1 E” series form part of the ‘Condensation’ series (2020 – present). Following a long period working with black ink, the artist has broadened her palette to include white. The use of white ink is intended to counteract certain areas of densification within the drawing that arise from the layering of ink. The black is softened in certain areas and changes in quality. This gives rise to a process of densification and rarefaction within the work, whereby the nature of the white and black results in subtle grey-blue nuances, which further expand the palette. What is particularly distinctive about this series is that both white and black are applied on the same plane, so that both ‘colours’ compete for visibility on the same plane and surface, or blend together to create new nuances.
