A new beginning often means leaving the past behind and looking to the future with a fresh perspective. The artist explores the duality of this experience in depth. Starting afresh as a couple means finding a shared path where you support and inspire one another. It is this shared strength that gives you the courage to shake off the past and create new space for growth and development.
A new beginning can also be a deeply personal journey. Starting afresh on your own requires great courage and determination. It is an act of self-discovery and letting go, driven by the hope that the future holds better opportunities. A step towards getting to know oneself anew and finding one’s own path, without being weighed down by the moments of the past, but rather facing them with acceptance.
The work reflects the belief that new beginnings are always associated with a certain degree of uncertainty, but also with enormous potential for positive change. “A New Beginning” is an invitation to reflect on one’s own willingness to leave the old behind and embrace the new. Perhaps also a gentle call to find the courage to overcome one’s own limitations and step outside one’s comfort zone.
The artwork is stretched onto a stretcher frame, sold unframed, signed on the front and back, and dispatched with a certificate of authenticity.
Johanna Hodler
Hi, I’m Hanna and my works are created from a single, continuous line, which I complement with acrylics, oil pastels and coloured pencils. My work centres on abstracted faces, through which I explore everyday thoughts and emotions – such as procrastination, anxieties, questions of identity, relationships or the pressure of endless to-do lists.
My paintings explore themes that concern many people, whilst opening up space for individual interpretations. I find it particularly fascinating how differently the faces depicted are perceived – depending on the viewers’ personal experiences and backgrounds.

street scenes also found their way into my work. These motifs emerged as part of my artistic and psychogeographical research into the interplay between personal identity and urban space. For me, they represent possibilities, encounters and the question of to what extent I feel connected to certain places.
