Description
The title ‘Faux’ means ‘false’ and describes the interplay between appearance and reality. The starting point for the work is a piece of plastic that has been deformed by heating. Due to its flexible nature, it can lose its original shape and thereby represent something else. In this case, it resembles a petal.
However, the piece of plastic itself is not visible in the picture. Instead, it has been captured as a drawing and thus becomes a representation. This creates a further contrast. What looks like a petal is actually a deformed piece of plastic, and what we see is, in turn, merely a drawing of it. The picture therefore depicts something that is not what it appears to be at first glance.
