The artwork is shipped stretched on a stretcher frame – including a certificate of authenticity and the artist’s signature on the reverse.
The painting explores the theme of entering a new home whilst simultaneously losing one’s old one. All hope rests with the child, who looks at the viewer with alert, curious yet sad eyes, whilst all the other figures are lost in their own thoughts. The room was designed based on accounts of personal family experiences – the Bavarian Forest in the background, the cramped conditions in the migrant workers’ accommodation, and the many suitcases bearing witness to the journey to a foreign land. The painting was created as part of the AVL exhibition in Regensburg entitled ‘Mobility’. Apart from my personal background, social mobility struck me as a highly topical issue, certainly worthy of artistic interpretation.

Prof.Her works feature figures who are in a state of transformation. Themes such as pathologisation, family dynamics and states of psychological distress form the backdrop to many of her works. Alongside these, she creates landscape paintings – often nocturnal or atmospherically dense scenes – which serve as quiet counterpoints to her figurative works.
